My passion is photography and videography of birds and the natural world. I use many different cameras (Canon, Panasonic, GoPro, DJI) to bring the world's natural beauty to your doorstep. It is my pleasure to share these videos with you.
Adult Female Rose-Breasted Grosbeak Feeding Chick [Slow-Motion 4k, 120 fps]
An adult female rose-breasted grosbeak cracked a few sunflower seeds and then fed the kernels to her chick. It's amazing to watch her feed the chick in slow-motion 4k.
The purple on their bills is from the parents feeding the chicks mulberries. They tend to switch off between sunflower seeds and mulberries.
Footage was recorded at 120 fps, then slowed down to 24 fps.

The Big Reveal
Переглядів 8314 днів тому
Last summer I spent quite a few days with George Howe capturing footage for a new documentary that George was working on here in the Driftless Region of Wisconsin and Minnesota. One of my favorite trips with George was to the Spring Green / Mazomanie area. I took quite a bit of drone footage there. I won't say any more as I don't want to give away the the big reveal. "The Big Reveal" was a favo...
Oriole Nest Filmed in 8k, Cropped to 4k - Nikon Z9 + 800mm PF lens
Переглядів 9321 день тому
If I had a dollar for every time someone inquired why anyone needs to film in 8k, I'd be rich! Here's a prime example. When filming nature 99% of the time you cannot move closer to your subject. This requires a large lens. For birds, most photographers shoot with 600mm or higher lenses. In this particular case I was using the Nikon Z9 with the 800mm PF lens and even that didn't get me as close ...
Storm at Day Creek
Переглядів 94Місяць тому
A rather dramatic thunderstorm rolled through the area this afternoon. Nothing severe but the Spielberg / Close Encounter clouds were a real treat! Filmed with the Mavic Air 3 drone, footage speed increased to show the evolution of the storm and to dramatize the storm. Music licensed via Soundstripe, Cody Martin "Brittle Bones"
Northern Lights Time Lapse and Video: May 10-11, 2024

Wow! What an incredible night it was. Horizon to horizon Northern Lights here in Southeast Minnesota. I used two cameras to film the entire event from dusk until dawn. Luckily it was clear the entire night. The Nikon Z9 was used with a Rokinon 14mm EF lens to build a time-lapse video of the entire night. The second camera was the Sony ZV-E1 camera which takes incredible low-light footage. I use...

On May 5, 2024 the CPKS (Canadian Pacific (CP) and Kansas City Southern (KCS)) 2816 steam train made its way from St. Paul, Minnesota to Franklin Park, Illinois. From CPKS's website it states: "The 4-6-4 Hudson-type steam locomotive was built in December 1930 by Montreal Locomotive Works. Originally intended for fast freight and passenger service, the locomotive worked primarily in Eastern Cana...
Leonids in Real-Time using the Sony ZV-E1 (Radio Echoes Too!)
Переглядів 807 місяців тому
November 17-19, 2023 was the peak of the Leonid meteor shower. Visual rates were around 30 per hour but the radio recorded many more meteors. Scouring through 10 hours of video, I found about 50 instances in which the meteor was caught on video as well as a radio recording. Both video and audio recordings were synced to reveal a correlation between the two methods. This video is a sample of the...

Trick or Treat? Happy Snow-Ween!
Переглядів 588 місяців тому
Snow on Halloween! It's a trick if you hate snow but a treat if you love snow. Today was our second snowfall of the season and this one accumulated to a couple of inches. Hard to believe it was in the 70's here less than a week ago. Here's a few clips taken around the bird feeders. Taken with the Sony A1 and the Sony 200-600mm lens. Shot in 240 fps 1080p, up-rezzed to 4k.
Fall Colors Along the Bluffs of the Mississippi: Brownsville to Reno, MN

See the fall colors along the bluffs of the Mississippi River near Brownsville MN from the perspective of an eagle. Filmed during the prime of the fall color season this footage shows the colors from above with hidden canyons that can only be seen from this perspective. Enjoy! Filmed with the DJI Air 3 drone primarily using the wide angle lens (cropped in post production). Music by Alsever Lake...
Hummingbird Slow Motion using the Nikon Z9 with the Nikkor 180-600mm + 1.4x
Переглядів 1,3 тис.9 місяців тому
Here's a test of the Nikkor 180-600mm lens with a Nikon 1.4x Z teleconverter and the Nikon Z9 shooting 120 fps video in 4k N-RAW. When viewing in slow motions, you will see the camera/lens occasionally refocusing to keep up with the hummingbird's movement but this is expected and quite normal to see with any camera. In real time, you would not see these focus acquisitions as they occur very fas...
Nikkor Z 180-600 Resolution Test & Comparison of the Sony 200-600 & Nikon Z 800mm lenses
Переглядів 22 тис.9 місяців тому
Resolving power of a lens is the first thing I test when I receive a new lens. This week I received the Nikon Nikkor Z 180-600 lens and in this video we explore the resolving power of this lens at various focal length, then compare this lens to the Sony 200-600mm and Nikkor Z 800mm lenses. All tests were conducted in a controlled environment without any distortions caused by atmospheric tempera...
DJI Air 3 Sample Footage
Переглядів 34311 місяців тому
Here's a sample of footage taken from around our place here in Minnesota using the new DJI Air 3 drone. This drone features two cameras: a 24mm and a 70mm lens producing a wide and telephoto view. I have marked each clip designating the lens used (1x = 24mm, 3x = 70mm). So far this drone has exceeded my expectations. I cranked down the settings in cine mode to produce very nice dolly effect foo...
Red-Bellied Woodpecker Drumming on Rain Gutter
Переглядів 1,2 тис.Рік тому
Never a dull moment here at DayCreek. All spring and now apparently into summer we have had a red-bellied woodpecker who just loves to drum on our rain gutters. Evidently its bill is harder than our steel gutters as its bill seems to have not sustained any damage. This bird also occasionally drums on our windows. This absolutely drives the cats insane. (We're not that far behind.)

Cool Video Alan. 1:12 where the chick was trying to get the tail of the female was hilarious.
We have a family at our place in SE Georgia. Hatched a few days ago. It's been fun watching them from our above ground pool. They don't know we are there lol... We do have lots of gravel and they love the puddles. We are making some puddles for them.
so are they born ready to destroy the deer?
Thanks for sharing your results
So very intesting Alan. Such a strange looking nest but it must keep the chicks safe. Mighty big catepillar for those little beaks. I think the eagles feed smaller portions! Beautiful photography. National Geographic should hire your!
hey, just wondering. how tall are you? the camera looks tiny in your hands lol
I'll go get a bigger worm and see if you can keep it down. Nice video Alan. Keep up the good work.
Stunningly beautiful and thank you for sharing/posting. 🐦
Thank you for the time and effort. You convinced me to order one for my Z7 II. I am stepping up from my D7500 + Tanron 18-400mm zoom. I can use the Tamron with the Z adapter, but I'm back to DX rsolution. Unfortunately, I'm going to double the weight and size to haul around.
Oh my goodness that was an ultimate relaxed review I've saw with my morning coffee. Thank you for that. Also all what you say about the optics. The sony 200-600 mm sleep now in my Dry cabinet, I click him on only on my aps-c bodies. And for me the results are good enough for me. But, maybe there comming a point in time that the upgrade to the topper from Sony under my arm ,sleep out from the shop to my study room. BTW, My wife now noting of this action in the future. So that said, thank you for sharing the birds on the end in your video. Special the Nectar lovers ❤ Greetz from Thailand.
Heard that once in the dead of night in my car... Safe to say florida has its ups and downs, still love those peskers though
Nice video Surprising amount of circulation in the clouds!
Im glad i found this video. I recently bought a damaged tamron 28-75mm f2.8 g2, it was missing the weather seel gasket and it mounted ok with the etz21 adapter but i sent if off to get a new weather seel and now it won't go on, but the sony 24 105mm f4 g isn't a problem. I don't know if the mount was changed as well, or just the gasket.
their difference is not straight out of camera its for colour grading and chroma key. this is not worth comparing this way. if there is no editing then you will see no difference.
Great review of these goggles… Your review is much appreciated, I just ordered myself a pair… thanks a bunch for the great video…
Wonderful!! 🙌🙌
Thank you so much for this awesome gift for those of us that didn't have this wondrous sight. I am going to share ...
Stunning! I think you captured everything possible. Great video!
Wonderful work Alan. Beautiful video of a Great event. Well done.
Outstanding job Alan. It was unbelievable up on the ridge. I've seen them many times but this was the best yet. Thanks for capturing it for us to enjoy.
We have the same opener and we are working on creating a window vent in our home built greenhouse. How did you create the vent part itself so that it doesn't leak. Do you have a video on that somewhere?
This was great ... thank you for the work !!
Are you sure the difference is still there after UA-cam applies its own compression? I would wonder if they deliver 422 on UA-cam, in the "stats for nerds" window there is nothing indicating this.
just found a sandhill nesting in my cattails, thought it was too wet for a nest, guess not
Still would have loved to see it at 600@6.3 for the Nikon,
Excellent
You got to name that Kachina Doll .. 🙂 !! BTW any chance you can test it will a TC2.0 .. I know i know its not recommended by anyone.. but I found on a good deal. and i am curious..
Will it work with the Potensic Atom? Not every one has DJI products. .
One of the best comparisons I've seen!
Beautiful love it
I just dont get the classical obsession with sharpness. at some point, all these are within a margin of error and once you export to JPEG and compress for online consumption, there is very little left. I much rather have low ISO for cleanear images. so I am not replacing my old 600mm f4 for this (as long as I can carry it :))
Just saw your TL...well done. I am curious what you interval you used? Thx

Thank you!
I can't believe no one else is commented on that Crane's parenting! Between 0:40 and 0:41 that mom (or dad) steps on the baby's neck and keeps her foot like that for almost 10 seconds before lifting it whereupon the young Crane leaps up with so much force it flops on its back and mom (or dad as it may be) plunks down on top of the bellied up little Crane without giving it a chance to right itself! Finally finally at 5:05 the parent bird manages to settle down so the egg is directly underneath her body and the baby is tucked under her wing and stays like that so must have sensed the arrangement was now proper. Glad baby didn't die in the process!
It‘s called survival. The earlier you understand this, the better.
Test #3 >>>> Look at the fine hairs off the ends of the feathers. On the lower center of the three frame on all three. On my 30" monitor. Center First Place Nikon 600, - Right side Second Place Nikon Z 180-600, - Left side Third Place Sony 200-600. Now that's real pixel peeping. LOL
The baby's coloring is exactly like the adult's. Wonderful creatures!
My Tamron 35-150mm f2.0-f2.8 also could not be mounted without force. So I decided I won't use that lens on Nikon.
great detailed work, Sounds like a lab test, do you not plan to take the lenses out in the wild to shoot ? only indoors/backyard ? new perspective to look at lenses i didn't' realize...
Could you please advise me on your Nikon lens foot mount. I’m having a problem with the lens wanting to spin while on a ARCA Swiss plate.
I'm not quite following your question. Can't you tighten the ring to keep it from turning? I use a video ball head for both video and stills.
Thanks Alan. I didn't have to stay up all night in the cold to see this. Good job.
Turn up the volume for this one. Excellent work job.
Sick! what settings were you using?
Thanks for sharing a little bit of home...
You are singing my story bro. Indeed outdoors is so damn challenging with the weather issues
Now this is what i was looking for Great video 👏👏👏
Is the mother nervous? Or why she moves so much? What happened after this?
Hello Alan. Your video here is awesome. The scenery is fantastic! It would be nice to watch again at some other times when we have a little less than 'ideal weather' here. I would like to share it with a friend of mine living in another country.
Nice Bangladesh 🇧🇩🇧🇩❤❤❤
Wow Very nice....
